Keyword research & planning

We conduct our keyword research based off of what real people are searching for in real time. Including long-tail keywords that are actively being searched for significantly increases your chances of attracting not just clicks to your website, but the right clicks, from the right people, at the right time.

A/B Testing for endless growth

We work tirelessly to optimize campaigns more and more over time. This constant attention is what reduces CPC, increases CTRs, and ensures that every dollar spent is spent thoughtfully. Our goal is to maximize return on ad spend (ROAS) and ensure the highest quality traffic is being sent to your website.

importance of Competitor analysis

We don’t want to replicate what your competitors are doing, we want to do it better. By performing deep competitor analysis we’ll be able to tell you the keywords your competitors are ranking for, where they’re getting the majority of their traffic from, and how we can use that information to create highly targeted ads that will blow the competition out of the water!

Frequently Asked Questions About Google Ads

Why are your Google Ads not converting?

  1. Keywords don’t show buying intent. Someone searching for “jeans” could be searching for “jeans for men, jeans for women, jeans with patches, jeans with stars”. If you’re selling “Jeans online for men on sale” make sure your keywords reflect that. You might see lots of clicks coming from broad keywords, but if they’re not converting they’re only eating up your budget that could be better spent on more relevant keywords that are tailored specifically to your target audience. You don’t have to get so specific that no one clicks on your ads, but just be specific enough to filter out the irrelevant clicks from the relevant ones. This is one of a number of ways to easily improve Google Ads!

  2. Not using negative keywords. For example if you own a car wash, but your ads are getting triggered when Google users are searching for car shops, then you’d want to add “shop” as a negative keyword. This will save you money by not spending your budget on clicks from irrelevant searches.

  3. Landing pages aren’t optimized. Does your landing page state clearly what your business/product is and how it’ll help your client/customer? Is your contact info listed clearly and are all phone numbers and email addresses clickable? Is it taking your page a really long time to load? Is there a lot of text and no images to break up the text? These could all contribute to visitors leaving without converting, but the good news is they’re all fixable and will result in a really strong landing page that’s converting visitors left and right!

  4. You’re not remarketing. Especially if your clients/customers might need a little more time before deciding to use your product or service, you should be running a remarketing campaign. Remarketing and tailoring your message specifically to visitors who have interacted with your site in some way previously will increase the chances of those individuals performing a conversion.

  5. Mismatched landing page & ad text. It should be as clear as day what a visitor should expect when they click your ad. If they click on an ad, think they’re visiting a page about one thing, then get to your landing page which is advertising something entirely different, there’s a much higher chance of that person leaving without converting. Make sure your ad text and landing pages live in perfect harmony of one another. Think about it from the visitors perspective, you don’t want to be surprised when you’re clicking a link, so keep things consistent and your visitors will appreciate it!

  6. You’re only running Display Ads. More conversions happen from visitors using Google. The types of ads shown in Google search results are Search Ads. If you’re most concerned about conversions and less concerned about raising brand awareness, then start running search ads now!

You can still run Display Ads, but don’t expect the kinds of conversions you’ll receive when running Search campaigns.

  7. You’re not qualifying your clicks. You need to qualify clicks in your ad text. This means letting people know up front what it is you do, how much you charge, where you’re located – Think of all the things that would stop someone from converting after landing on your site. Is it geography? Financial? Do you only work with clients from certain industries? Whatever it might be, this should be listed prominently, in the title of your ad. Mention it in your ad headline so it’s the first thing people see before clicking. Google users who are still interested even after you add this qualifier, will click. Those who aren’t interested will move on.

Either way it’s great for you since now you’re only reserving your budget for quality clicks!

Bonus: Conversion tracking isn’t set up properly. This seems obvious, but test it on your own and make sure your conversion goals are being triggered. You’ll want to make sure your data-driven decisions are based on real-data! Ensuring proper conversion-goal set up is essential to building a strong, profitable campaign.

How to find good keywords for Google Ads?

First, know your target audience

You’ll be spinning your wheels, struggling with Google Ads that aren’t converting if you don’t start with this step first!

Know who your target audience is, where they’re located, and which issues they’re having that your products or services will resolve. These are important questions you have to find answers to before moving onto the next step!

What are high intent keywords?

Keywords that show high intent are ones that a user would type into Google when they’re close to or ready to perform an action, such as buying a product or contacting a business for their services.

Since you’re running ads, you want the person clicking onto the ads to do something. Whether that’s calling your business, purchase a product, or fill out a form on your website. These are the keywords you’ll want to make sure your ads are targeting.

Next, where do you find buyer intent keywords?

The first place to look is Google.

Google Search Bar

You’ll want to type keywords that show intent into the search bar in Google. Take note of the dropdown search terms that you’ll see appear as you type into the search bar. Make a list of all terms that are relevant to you, your business, your audience, and of course your ads!

Check out the “Searches related to” section in Google

This is a section at the bottom of a Google Search Results page. After you’ve typed a search term into Google and performed a search, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Here you’ll find other highly-searched for keyword terms. Add these to your growing list of potential keywords.

WordStream is another great resource to use to find keywords that’s 100% free!

You’ll use it similarly to Google Ads Keyword Planner where you’ll type in a search term and the tool gives you suggestions that are similar to your original search term. WordStream will also show you each keywords competition level, search volume, and more great info!

Then, review your list of keywords

Remove the least specific keywords and any keywords that show research intent and ones that aren’t as relevant. You can tell where someone is in the buyer’s journey and what kind of result they’re hoping to achieve based on what they’re searching for in Google.

Someone stuck on the side of the road in the middle of the night needing their car fixed immediately might search for “emergency car repair in Brooklyn, NY” or “24-hour car repair Brooklyn, NY”. In this case, if you were running emergency car repair ads you’d want to include those search terms, but you might not want to add search terms such as “Which car is easiest to repair?” for instance.

Last, run your list of keywords through Google Ads Keyword Planner

Start by running your keywords through the “Discover New Keywords” search tool in the Google Ads Keyword Planner. Set your target location and you’ll see the search volume for the keywords you’ve added as well as keyword suggestions. These can be organized from least to most searched for and highest and lowest competition level. You’ll want to choose a mix of competition levels, analyze the results and further refine your campaign from there.

Refine your list further since now you have a list of well-researched keywords! It’s time to run your keywords through Google Ads Keyword Planner “Get search volume and forecasts” tool. It’s in this tool that you’ll be able to run a search of all your keywords and find out how many clicks you’d get for a certain amount of money. You’ll also see an estimated click-through-rate, average position of you ad in Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and more useful information!

What are the best free keyword research tools & keyword finders?

  1. Googles predictive search bar. This will be your first stop for finding good keywords to use for ads. To use, start typing in search terms based on what it is you’re advertising. View the other search terms that will appear as you type. These are the most highly searched for terms around the keywords you’re typing. Figure out which ones are most relevant to you, your audience, and your ads and add them to your list. Keep reading to find out how to use all of these tools together to find the best keywords for Google Ads.

  2. Google Trends – If you want to find out how popular a topic/subject/search term is, run it through Google Trends. You can compare four search terms at a time, set a target location and filter out the results by date. This is great to find out the times of year that people are searching for certain topics.

  3. WordStream.com is another good resource that’s 100% free. You can type in your target keyword, location, and industry and then let WordStream do the rest! You’ll see a list of keywords and search terms. Choose the ones most relevant for your business, varying competition levels between low, medium, and high. Add these keywords to your growing list!

  4. Google Ads Keyword PlannerDiscover new keywords. It’s 100% free to use, but you do need to attach a credit card to your Google Ads account. Start by using the search “Discover new keywords”. This list of keywords you’ve compiled from Googles predictive search bar and from WordStream are now going to be run through the keyword planner. Google will then show you the search volume for those keywords as well as make suggestions for other keywords you might also want to consider using. Now add these keywords to your list and remove any that are not very highly searched for.

  5. Google Ads Keyword Planner – Get search volume and forecasts. Now that you’ve collected this great list of keywords and refined them by using Google Ads Keyword Planner “Discover New Keywords” tool, it’s time to run all this great information through the “Get search volume and forecasts” tool. This information will tell you estimated clicks, impressions, average position of your ad, and more great information that will lead you to your goal of creating highly targeted, highly effective ads that are converting left and right!

Why is my quality score so low & how to improve your quality score?

Since Google Ads quality score is based on the quality of your ads and landing pages, there could be a number of reasons you have a low quality score. Luckily, they’re all easily fixable and will lead to improved quality scores and better performing ads. Let’s dive in!

  1. Ads & landing pages don’t match. How relevant ads are is a quality score determining factor. If your ad is about jacket with stars, Google wants to see keywords that include “jackets with stars” in your ad text and on your landing page. No one wants to click an ad they think is about one thing and then get directed to a landing page about something else. Your ads should reflect what your landing page is about and vise-versa.

  2. Poor landing page experience. How does Google determine landing page experience? Some factors that Google considers are landing page speed, the keywords that are on the landing page, and how close those keywords are to a Google users search terms. They also consider the design of the page. Is it easy to navigate through? Is it clear to a new visitor of the page what the landing page is about, who the business is, and what the visitor is expected to do such as make a call, purchase a product, or fill out a form?

  3. Your keywords are too new. If you’re seeing this symbol “—” it’s most likely because your keywords just need to run a bit and over time Google will give them quality scores. To learn more about the factors Google uses when determining quality score, click here.
